WAMC Northeast Public Radio recently visited the Fall Kill, where Poughkeepsie High School students were counting glass eels with the Hudson River Eel Project. Tune in to learn a few fascinating eel facts from DEC Educator Sarah Mount, plus hear local students share their eel experiences. Data collected by Poughkeepsie High School students and other Hudson River Eel Project volunteers inform real decisions about wildlife management and habitat restoration. The Hudson River Eel Project’s data was included in the 2023 Benchmark Stock Assessment by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, a first for a volunteer-gathered dataset.
