Science & Research

As New York’s National Estuarine Research Reserve, we put federal research funding, a nationally standardized monitoring program, and student research programs to work for Hudson River communities and residents. In collaboration with partners throughout the region, we create opportunities to do place-based research that protects people and places along the Hudson and builds collective capacity to contribute to nationally significant estuarine research.

    Research Focus Areas

Together with our partners, we identified focus areas areas for research that supports the resilience of the Estuary’s natural resources and communities over the next five years.

    Student Research

We support New York students in doing field-based, community-driven research that gives them the skills they need to join the environmental science workforce.

    Collaborative Research

We put federal funding and national expertise to work for large-scale, community-driven, collaborative research that benefits communities throughout the Hudson Valley.

    Mapping

In partnership with the Hudson River Estuary Program (HREP), wte make dozens of free GIS data sets and mapping products available to researchers, resource managers, and members of the public to advance science and stewardship of the Hudson River and its habitats.

    Monitoring

We collect real-time data on waters, habitats, and tides for researchers, decision-makers, and industry and track long-term at our component sites in annual status reports.
