Science Saturdays: Seining and Fish ID

May 30 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Science Saturdays are moving to the Power House at Staatsburgh State Historic Site for the summer! Don’t miss the opportunity to put on waders and jump in the Hudson on May 30. Join DEC Staff as we pull a seine net and explore which fish live in the Hudson River. Equipment will be provided.

We will meet at Mills Mansion Staatsburgh State Historic Site. Park at the carriage barn (signs will be posted) and DEC Staff will walk with attendees to the Power House (seining location). Please note that this program will involve walking on rocky steps and uneven terrain.

Registration is not required. Please visit the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve website for more information. The Reserve’s education programs are delivered in partnership with the Hudson River Estuary Program.

This Science Saturday coincides with World Fish Migration Day, a global celebration to create awareness about the importance of migratory fish and free-flowing rivers. Environmental organizations of the Lower Hudson and Harbor have come together to put on family-friendly, free fishing events for the public to engage in the wonders of the Hudson River! Please visit the World Fish Migration Lower Hudson & Harbor Fish Count website for a full list of events taking place in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley.
